Adult Program
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Learn the popular grappling art in a traditional setting without the pressure of competition, including practical self-defense.
About the BJJ curriculum
We offer a traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program infused with meditation and mindfulness. Every class is a new combination of practicing new techniques, strengthening, and “free rolling” to test what you’ve learned. You will both get an excellent workout and learn something new every time you roll with us.
In our program students will learn and implement the concept that using leverage and proper technique a smaller, weaker person can throw, sweep, lock, & choke a bigger, stronger person.
Classes will focus on learning the art as well as practical self-defense, and are intense and rewarding without the pressure of competition.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) different from ZMA?
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focuses on grappling exclusively, so there are no strikes. This is a detailed look at the use of leverage, conservation of energy, and more advanced & varied grappling techniques than we use in ZMA. You also begin with a white sash because of its functionality — it holds your gi closed!
Who teaches BJJ?
Instruction in our school began under Sensei Fiorenzi, the first & highest-rank BJJ practitioner in Michigan, and now continues under Sifu Brown since he earned his black belt in the art.
Is a gi required for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Yes, we wear a traditional BJJ uniform that aids in the practice. You are welcome to wear a t-shirt or other garments under it as you desire (preferably black or white, with minimal logos). You do NOT need to buy a gi for a free intro class.
Are people going to crush me under them?
No. Beginners and all ability levels are welcome in our school and we are respectful of our partners. The challenge level ramps with your ability. Martial arts is for everyone.
